Football in Lisbon

Lisbon - a perfect place for football fans to practise

Known as the City of Seven Hills, Lisbon is an amphitheater facing the river Tagus and with it has always lived in close connection. Lisbon keeps history in its romantic avenues, in its Moorish neighborhoods, in its Roman subsoil, in its Manueline, Baroque, Gothic monuments, to the most daring modern national and international architecture.
Lisbon is a historic capital, a potpourri of unusual character and charm, where 800 years of cultural influences mingle with modern trends and life styles creating spectacular contrasts

MUST-DO:
- To taste the local fresh fish dishes, including bacalhau one of the specialties of Portugal
- To visit the Sport Cathedrals such as Estádio da Luz (Luz Stadium) or Estádio de Alvalade (Alvalade Stadium)

Also, it was in Lisbon that, in late October 1888, Guilherme Pinto Basto had the initiative to organize a first football exhibition. The match took place where it is today the Square of Bulls 'Campo Pequeno' opposing the equipment of Portugal to the one of England. The Portuguese won the game 2-1.
